Our mystery seeds this week did not photograph well.
Doesn’t it look like a black blob with some ridges on the back?
Perhaps seeing the seed pods will help you identify them.
The angle helps, too. The seeds have a smoother area underneath and a prominent “tooth.”

Malvaceae of some sort…maybe Hibiscus? Bombax or Cieba?
Your first guess is a good one. I think you’ll recognize the plant when you see what it is.
