Mystery Seed of the Week 215

The bird probably dropped this plant into our yard.

    Verbena sp, probably Verbena bonariensis?

    Do you know what the white areas on the seeds I took photos of are, botanically?

    In the literature they are simply referred to as papillae, i am not sure of their function.
