Mystery Seed of the Week 180

This week we have a nut.

These come from a tree found in western New York.

The identity is a bit tricky, so look closely at the green husks before you make a guess.

    The tan one looks like hickory, but the husks are too thin for shagbark. Then again, I remember something about pignut hickory having thin husks that look like pig snouts. A stretch, but I’ll go with pignut.

    We are definitely thinking this is one of the hickory trees…..pignut hickory is our guess!
